Quality Education for All D89 Students

Steve believes that education is one of the pillars of our democratic society: it’s through equal access to education (a fundamental right in the Constitution) that our communities thrive, enabling future generations of Americans to grow, learn, and contribute to society.

Steve’s priorities include the following:

• Individual student focus: Steve believes that D89 has done well thus far in accommodating varying students’ needs by providing intervention and challenge courses, as well as supporting those with special needs — and he wants to work to make that even more all-encompassing. Steve’s key focus will be to empower individual students in achieving their true unique and diverse potentials.

• Empowering teachers: Steve believes that hiring excellent teachers and empowering them to do what they do best (teach!) is critical in D89’s continued success. This includes bringing in committed teachers, equipping them with the best training and tools possible, giving them ownership of their curriculum, and providing them with the support they need to focus on their competitive advantage: educating our children.

• Safety through a welcoming environment: Steve’s goal is to create safe learning environments (both physically and emotionally) through a welcoming environment for all students, teachers, staff, and parents.
