Safe, Thriving Learning Environment

Steve believes that students learn better and embrace learning more when their school is welcoming and they feel safe. Once within this welcoming environment, access to a well-rounded education is paramount. Steve is aware and sees that there is room to grow in this space — particularly for our vulnerable children. Steve’s commitment to all students, regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, religion/secularism, or age, will be a primary focus as he serves on the D89 school board.

Steve commits to the following:

  • Welcoming all students: Steve has experience with process analysis and systems creation to find gaps in existing systems and improve upon them to better ensure that no child falls through the cracks, and that no matter who they are, they feel welcome, safe, and ready to learn in D89.

  • Expand community voices: Steve has seen the power of giving D89 residents a voice in the school system through community panels, and believes that continuing this practice will help improve our district and tackle the difficult community issues we currently face, whether it’s about taxes, educational resources, or curriculum. Steve’s primary goal in this space would be to ensure panels are more representative of the communities we serve in Glen Ellyn, Wheaton and Lombard.

  • Hire more of the right people: Steve believes that a good school system begins with incredible staff and teachers. Attracting and hiring folks that represent the community we all live in will be key to providing a welcoming environment for our students.

  • Explore student-focused learning opportunities: Steve understands that there are challenges the district faces in reaching each student. Steve would like to discover which learning aspects and family supports can improve each and every student’s educational experience, especially for students with access challenges.
